Ponderas Academic Hospital (PAH) is a medical facility located in the North part of Bucharest (the capital of Romania), 15’ from the main airport (Henri Coanda Airport). Opened in 2011 as a private hospital dedicated to Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery, PAH runs now activity in 250 beds and 12 ORs, accommodating Gastro-intestinal Surgery, Gastroenterology, Urology, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Oncology, Pediatrics and some other departments. Ponderas Academic Hospital focuses on minimal invasive surgery especially on bariatric, colorectal, hernia surgery and oncology, using laparoscopic, flexible endoscopic or robotic surgery (DaVinci Xi). The team expertise encounters more than 30000 MIS procedures positioning PAH among the most experienced hospitals in the Region. The bariatric & metabolic surgery program includes 80-90 new patients who are operated monthly, [more than 1000 obese patients per year]. Having a high case load and very good results, the Ponderas Hospital was designated as Center of Excellence in Bariatric Surgery by IFSO-EC in 2011 and International Center of Excellence for Bariatric Surgery by Surgical Review Corporation, in 2014. Since 2016, Ponderas has been also designated as Center of Excellence in Colorectal Surgery (SRC), Center of Excellence in Hernia Surgery (SRC) and Center of Excellence in Minima Invasive Surgery (SRC). Meanwhile, the hospital hosts Bucharest Surgical Training Institute, an endoscopic training center where, 10-12 courses dedicated to video-assisted techniques are yearly organized .The training activity is Endorsed by EAES.
